Ann

Hironaka

Advisor

Ann Hironaka is a professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of California-Irvine.  She received her Ph.D. in sociology in 1998 from Stanford University, where she also completed her MA and BA. 
 

She worked at the (now defunct) Office of Technology Assessment, a research agency of the U.S. Congress in Washington D.C. and spent several years as an affiliate at the Center for International Security and Co-operation (CISAC) at Stanford.  Ann has written several books, including two books on war (Tokens of Power: Rethinking War, 2017) and Neverending Wars: The International Community, Weak States, and the Perpetuation of Civil War, 2005), and one book on global environmental protection (Greening the Globe: World Society and Environmental Change, 2014). 

Dr. Hironaka is strongly committed to supporting diversity and 
inclusion at the University of California - Irvine and has received 
multiple awards recognizing her mentorship of graduate students.
